COLOMBIA • MIGUEL ARIAS
Sunshine in a cup! Miguel Arias' beautiful coffee opens with the bright acidity of ruby red grapefruit juice. It has a big sweet note, which is infused with delicate floral flavours. It is like clover honey or lavender-laced brown sugar. The finish is punchy with a nice red cherry fruit note. It is a very clean cup that pairs sugary flavours with sparkling brightness and is best enjoyed with bird songs and warm breezes.
Beyond melting snowbanks and sprouting flower buds, Spring means fresh crop arrivals from Colombia! For Inzá, I love working with Asorcafe. It was founded in 2004, by ten farmers tired of the low prices offered by parchment buyers. They started working with state organizations to create a co-operative that would provide better prices, as well member aid through education, job training and healthcare services. Miguel Arias is one the current members whose beautiful family farm is nestled in the upper reaches of Guanacas near the town of Inzá.
