ECUADOR • YESSENIA MURILLO
Yessenia's coffee is wonderfully balanced. It opens with the airy and bright acidity of cranberry and red currant. There is a big mouthfeel that is heavy with honey crisp apple and bosc pear notes. The finish is laden with raw honey and a mixture of all those comforting, childhood-favorite desserts like apple crisp, pear cobbler and snickerdoodle cookies.
Finca Pisashi is located in the Northwest of Pichincha, two hours from Quito within the beautiful Chocó Andino biosphere reserve. A deep love of the land inspired Yessenia to peruse coffee production. She is relatively new to agriculture, with only five years experience at Pisashi, but you would never guess given the cup's quality. She maintains an acute focus on biodiversity and sustainability relying on renewable energy, water recycling, and extensive composting to power her operation. During the harvest season, she prioritizes hiring women and creating well paying jobs for the community.
