ETHIOPIA • NANO CHALLA
The widespread adoration for Nano Challa is understandable given its consistent quality and deeply classic Jimma flavour profile. The mill started with help from NGO Technoserve who facilitated loans, training, and new methods for grading. As Asnake Nigat from Kata Muduga explains, it was the “starting point to us doing exemplary in these areas”. The mill has since expanded greatly under the leadership of Kata Muduga and arguably produces some of the region’s best crops. With increasing demand, the mill added a second sibling mill, Nano Genji, just over three years ago, which we are currently featuring in Magnolia!
It is a real joy to have both Nano Challa and Nano Genji on menu because they both bring a sparkling acidity and champagne-like mouthfeel with loads of peach flavours. Nano Challa however steps up the vibrant citrus acidity with mandarin, lime, and lemon atop all the glorious floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle. With a caramel backing against so much sticky stone fruit flavours, Summer lives on in this cup!
