ETHIOPIA • NEJA FADIL
Neja Fadil Reshid founded the Neja Fadil washing station in 2017. This year, it produced just over 2100 bags collected from local smallholder farms in the Abaya Uraga area. While Guji is certainly known for its bright and sweet cups, what makes Neja Fadil unique is that most of the Abaya Uraga smallholder farms have only recently added coffee to their bio-diverse portfolios of crops. Making it is like a new take on an old classic.
The cup is dominated with a lively citric acidity, like fresh squeezed orange juice or the bright pop of a plump blackberry. It has a round mouthfeel with a champagne-like tanginess that pairs perfectly with the cup's lush and deep sweetness; think pink starbursts, yellow skittles, red jollyranchers and other candy that is easier to identify by colour than by flavour.
