KENYA • KIANGOI
Kangoi is sticky, sweet and floral. And really, what more do you want from a great Kenyan coffee? The acidity sparkles with pink grapefruit and green apple. There is a creamy and thick body that is part vanilla nougat and part birthday cake. The cup is complex with a beautiful interplay of fragrant violet, jammy raspberry, guava juice and even a little pink peppercorn.
The Kiangoi factory was founded in 1977 after the failure of the once-famous Ngiriama Cooperative Society. It is now run by Karimikui who represents just over 1,400 smallholders in the Kirinyaga Region. The group is part of the larger Rung'eto Farmers Cooperative Society, which help with infrastructure, member dividends and fair trade certifications.
