A LIGHT DARK ROAST:
People have been drinking dark roasts for over two-centuries and it seems both short-sighted and careless to ignore history. And yet if you roast too dark, all of the unique flavours of origin are lost and you simply taste the bitter burn and one-dimensional char of the roast process itself. Shady Lane is a new way of roasting that uses gentle technique to strike a compromise: it engages in the coffee past with an approachable low-acidity but also showcases the deeply sweet and delicious chocolaty notes possible with particular origins. It is new and old because as the Pavement song concludes, "the worlds collide, but all that we want is a shady lane".

ORIGIN:
In the span of six years, Katia Duke has completely transformed Finca San Isidro. Through careful and fastidious attention to varietals, soil conditions, fermentation, drying and shipping, she has shifted production from parchment coffee sold through intermediaries to the specialty market. It is unsurprising given her immense talent, passion, and her education in agronomy from the prestigious San Morano University. This is my third harvest working with Katia and I look forward to many, many more!

FLAVOUR:
The flavours in the cup match the extraordinary beauty of San Isidro, which is home to hundreds of species of plants, birds, and orchids. It opens with the clean acidity of a mandarin orange. The cup quickly turns full chocolate. Like fudge brownies or a black forest cake, it is rich, creamy, thick, and decadent. Shady Lane remains extraordinarily versatile, opening it to almost any brew method and making it delicious alone or with milk.
