ORIGIN:
This lots comes from the acclaimed Gaturiri factory. It is one of four washing stations operated by Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society and has been in operation for nearly 50 years. The word Gaturiri is Kikuyu for ‘the shrubs’ and refers to an area for locals to gather medicinal herbs and flowers, which is appropriate given the stations location in the picturesque foothills of Mt. Kenya. As of this harvest, Gaturiri serves 1,500 small lot producers and it harvested nearly 600 tons of cherry.

FLAVOUR:
This year’s offering is a bit of a sensory time warp, reminding me of those Kenyan harvests from 5 and 6 years ago. It has huge juicy red grape and blackberry notes, which have that wonderful ‘this tastes like sunshine’ quality. The body is big and delights with floral notes of hibiscus and honeysuckle. It has a long finish with a hint of surprising pineapple over some deep caramel flavours.
