NICARAGUA • DIÉDERICKS GADEA
Diédericks Gadea inherited a love of farming from his parents, who grew corn and red beans in the mountains of Northern Nicaragua. He left the family farm to pursue coffee at his Los Encuentros farm. It was the first in the area to adapt eco-friendly approaches to farming, including hardwood and fruit tree shading, banana plant crop covers, and soil erosion mitigation. Today the farm’s dense reforested sections are home to many of Jintoga’s endangered species.
I have been searching for a producing partner from Nicaragua for some time, so was delighted to try Diédericks’ delicious coffee. The combination of the Red Catuai varietal, natural processing, and Los Encuentros’ unique ecology make for a chocolate forward cup with red cherry & sparkling orange acidity.
